French rider Roger-Yves Bost electrified the opening 5* class of the Global Champions Tour 2012 season in Doha, Qatar winning the first leg in super quick time. The world’s top riders kicked off the battle for the crown of the Global Champions Tour 2012 with over 40 riders competing under floodlights at the Al Rayyan outdoor arena.
Roger-Yves blasted into the ring and set an electrifying pace on his 12-year-old mare Castle Forbes Cosma with a clear round in 54.30 seconds. Roger-Yves, who won the 2011 Abu Dhabi GCT Grand Prix, took a few hair-raising risks round the course and it paid off. Speaking just before the prize giving ceremony he said: "Winning the first class of the first outdoor show was a very good start to this tournament."
Fellow French rider Simon Delestre hit the accelerator but could not quite match his countryman. Simon completed a fast round in 58.37 putting him in second place. Steve Guerdat, a renowned speed rider, set off on a quick pace on his aptly named horse Ferrari. The Swiss rider had an effortless clear in 58.78 and third place. Billy Twomey for Ireland cracked into fourth place on 59.16 eclipsing German Marco Kutscher’s clear round in 59.58.
