Following the closure of the Eurocommerce stables in Lochem, the Netherlands – the rumour treadmill has been going hot about the stables’ top rider Gerco Schröder’s future. “I am still at Eurocommerce,” Schröder says to World of Showjumping – “After speaking with the curator who takes care of what will happen with the Eurocommerce estate, we agreed that I should stay here until there is a plan for what will happen with the horses. It would not be fair for the horses here if I left them, so I am still here with my groom Lais – making sure that they are worked and that they get what they need every day,” he details. “Then we will see what happens. I have always had a stable together with my brothers Ben and Wim, so there is of course a possibility to go back to work there.”
As the stables at Eurocommerce are closed off for departure of any of the horses there, Gerco’s super star London (Nabab de Reve x Chin Chin) will naturally not follow with to the CSI5* show in Den Bosch the coming weekend. “I take two of our own horses with me; Urban Hero and Zamora,” Gerco says.
“I am now focusing on trying to find a solution to keep London so I can continue to ride him. He is one of the best horses in the world, and I want to try and secure him for the Dutch sport,” Gerco says of the 12 year old stallion who won him Olympic team and individual silver in London in 2012 in addition to notching up several huge Grand Prix wins around the world the last years.
