The European Championships for children, juniors and young riders started yesterday and no less than 258 riders took part in one of the three classes on Wednesday. Most of the young riders jumped their first qualifier without faults as 63 of them went clear. Italian rider Giampiero Garofalo, aboard Zyquita Sr, was the fastest one in this class with 83,04 seconds. Frank Schuttert from the Netherlands, with Winchester HS, was second best with 86,16 seconds, and in third was the Spanish rider Santiago Núñez with Quarela de Toscane on a time of 88,09.

The German team was the most prominent one in the first junior qualifier, with two riders among the top ten. Philip Koch with Cracker Jack 5 was the fastest to complete the course and his compatriot Leonie Krieg with Champerlo was tenth. Norwegian rider Per Ulven riding Urlanmore Aldi was second and British rider Jessica Mendoza with Spirit T third. 87 riders jumped in this class and 22 finished without faults.

The childrens' class had a German touch as well. Catharina Nane Staack, aboard Coolman H, got a time of 74,91 seconds and won. The second place was occupied by Czech rider Katerina Kucerova with Timpex Abrand and third place went to Spanish rider Lourdes Martínez Torres riding Dutchcicolle Z. 54 out of 90 competitors completed the track without faults.
