Goodbye to Joli Coeur

Tuesday, 11 January 2011

Joli Coeur and Sloothaak. Photo by Carolo López-Quesada.Franke Sloothaak’s former top horse Joli Coeur has been put to sleep due to complications following colic. Joli Coeur reached 25 years and enjoyed his last years in the fields at Sloothaak’s friend Adelbert Rudolph.

Sloothaak and Joli Coeur won team gold for Germany at the Olympics in Atlanta in 1996 and at the WEG in Rome in 1998. At the WEG they also claimed the individual bronze medal. Together they jumped in 1.025.000 Euro, making them one of the most successful combinations of their time.

The gelding is described as “unique” by Franke, and will surely be remembered for ever for his triumphs on the many showjumping arenas around the world.
