Grand Prix win for Maikel van der Vleuten

Monday, 13 June 2011

Maikel van der Vleuten and VDL Groep Sapphire won the GP in De Steeg - here at Indoor Brabant earlier this year. Photo by Hanne Christensen.Maikel van der Vleuten’s brilliant form continued today when he won the four star BMC Grand Prix at Outdoor Gelderland in De Steeg, Holland. Aboard VDL Groep Sapphire (Mr. Blue X Grand Veneur) Maikel took home the top prize of 30 000 Euro. The Dutch rider has been doing very well lately, and was on the winning team in the Top League in St.Gallen one week ago.

Maikel was one of three riders to go double clear in the class that counted 47 riders, and his time in the jump-off was 0.54 seconds faster than that of runner-up Shane Breen on the lovely stallion Carmena Z (Carthago Z x Irco Mena).

Patrick van der Schans was third on the 11 year old KWPN-gelding Tum-Tum (Haarlem x Contango) – a great achievement for this young and talented rider. The fastest time in the jump-off belonged to Jur Vrieling on VDL Emmerton (Emilion x Nimmerdor), but they had one fence down.
