Hamburger Derby in pictures!

Monday, 21 May 2012

The derby bank in Hamburg is impressive and the audience took a closer look at it when the course was open for them to walk. All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.

It was crowded in Hamburg for the derby and what a fantastic atmosphere it was!1,75 cm high Hanne is looking over the wall. This was one of the fences that caused most faults. But most of the horses jumped really well on this massive oxer. Andre Plath with Cosmic Blue couldn´t have been more happy with his 16 faults. Christian Ahlmann´s stablejockey Judith Emmers with Papillon did an amazing round - what a girl!Holger Wulschner with Coeur de Lion on his way to the last fence.Janne-Friederike Meyer with Büttner´s Catcher on her way down the bank. But just a couple of fences after the bank Büttner´s Catcher lost a shoe and Janne had to retire.Guy Williams with Skip Two Ramiro missed the middle of the jump... .... and made sure that the people on the course got something to do.All the resons to be happy! Torben Köhlbrand was the first one to clear the derby course with his stallion C-Trenton Z. Michael Whitaker with Animation was participating, but Michael retired after 8 faults. Jaime Azcarraga was a bit fast over the fence on top of the bank and almost fell down the bank himself when Celsius pulled on the breaks. This combination caused a lot of problems. Marcus Ehning and Campbel looked really fresh even over the last fence. Looked like the two of them really enjoyed themselves.Nacorde left the course for the last time and he did it with honor, just four faults in the derby class. Andre Thieme's 17 year old ride is now retired. It was just a few meters between the bank and the next fence which of course caused a lot of problems, but the winners Nisse Lüneburg and Calle Cool jumped it without any problem.Richard Spooner with Apache on top of the bank. The couple got a refusal at 12 b and as Richard then did a short turn and just jumped the b-element he was disqualified.Just look at this massive jump!
