It was home rider Harrie Smolders and Regina Z (Rex Z x Savoy Hanover) that took the win in Friday's biggest class at the Longines Global Champions Tour in Valkenswaard. With one fourth of the 1.50 class proceeding to the jump-off after going clear in the first round, Smolders had hard competition against the clock – but as often is the feisty mare showed her competitors her back shoes.
With a round 0.77 seconds faster than that of Constant van Paesschen aboard Citizenguard Toscan de Sainte Hermelle (Surcouf de Revel x Bayac de Sainte Hermelle), the win belonged to the Dutch rider. Third was Janika Sprunger on Uptown Boy (Odermus R x Joost), who was over two seconds behind the winning pair.
The opening 1.45 class went to Ali Yousef Al Rumaihi on Gunder (Thunder van de Zuuthoeve x Randel). The Qatari rider was just fractions ahead of Gert Jan Bruggink and Vita 24 (Carinjo x Contender) in this two-phase competition, while Constant van Paesschen had another good result finishing third on Citizenguard Million Dreams (Diamant de Semilly x Concetto).
