When Casall La Silla and Rolf-Göran Bengtsson won Friday’s 1.50 class in Gothenburg it was the third time in a row; the pair also won this class in 2010 and 2009. “I really wanted to win this class, as it would be the third time for us,” the Swedish crowd favorite said.
There were 13 clears out of 35 horse and rider combinations in the class; the course was a big one – and a line with a plank at number eight followed by a quick turn to an oxer at number nine caused some trouble.
The jump-off was opened by Ireland’s Shane Carey and Temple Road, who made it all look easy with a clear round on the time off 39.77 – eventually good enough for fifth place. Rolf was next to go, and there was no doubt that he wanted to win. With Casall La Silla jumping sky-high, and a breathtaking turn to the third vertical and a racing finish towards the end – nobody was able to catch the pair who crossed the finish line on 35.14. The always speedy Simon Delestre and Napoli Du Ry tried their best though, but the time off 36.98 was only good enough for second place. Gerco Schröder and Eurocommerce Seattle were third with a time of 38.19.
