Henrik von Eckermann on top in Basel

Saturday, 14 January 2012

Henrik, Patrice and Ludger on the podium. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson. The Swedish rider Henrik von Eckermann won "The golden drum from Basel" with the only 9 year old mare Quibell (Quintero x Cento). It was a 1,50 class that turned out to be really demanding for horses and riders. Out of the 44 riders that started, 12 made it to the jump-off.

Alvaro de Miranda with AD Rahmannshof´s Bogeno (Baloubet du Rouet x Elanville) was first to go in the jump-off and he tried to put some pressure on the rest of the riders, but a pole fell on his way through the course. Then Harrie Smolders and Regina Z (Rex x Savoy Hanover) gave it a go, and even though Regina Z jumped amazing two poles fell. Carusso LS La Silla (Montebello la Silla x Joost) with Rolf-Göran Bengtsson in the saddle had the first fence down and then cleared the rest.

After that the first clear came; Ludger Beerbaum with Gotha FRH (Goldfever x Prestige Pilot). Ludger seemed to think that it was better to be safe than sorry, so he did a quite secure round. Philippe Rozier and Akita (Skippy x Goldspring de Lauzelle) had to see two poles fall, both the hind poles of the wide oxers. Beat Mändli and Colore (Contender x Lord) also got problems with one of the hind poles. Then Werner Muff entered the course with the only eight year old Never Last (Naples x Ramiro) who really impressed in the first round. Even the jump-off was great, but they had four faults.

They made it look easy; Henrik von Eckermann and Quibell. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Niklaus Schurtenberger and the really experienced Cantus (Cantus x Lanzer) were the next ones to be clear in the jump-off and that 3,5 seconds slower than Ludger. Ornella Mail (Lando x Alligator Fontaine) jumped amazingly and was as always fast with Patrice Delaveau. When they crossed the finish line they looked like the winners. But then it was time for Henrik von Eckermann and the fantastic Quibell. The jump-off didn´t look fast but it sure was, and the mare jumped it as easy as if it was a one meter class and they ended up on top!

Two riders were left to go; Luciana Diniz with Lennox (Lifestyle x Grannus) and Penelope Leprevost with Nayana (Royal Feu x Narcos), both of them got one down.

We have to mention Athina Onassis de Miranda that did a great round with AD Unaniem, but with one time fault she didn´t make it to the jump-off.
