Hickstead ahead at Spruce Meadows

Saturday, 18 June 2011

Hickstead and Eric are unbeatable these days. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Friday’s Scotiabank Cup at Spruce Meadows was headed by superstar Hickstead (Hamlet x Eikstein) and Eric Lamaze. The win in this 1.50 class was one of many lately for the seemingly unbeatable pair; last week Lamaze and Hickstead also topped a 1.60 class at Spruce Meadows – after GP-wins in both La Baule and Rome. Guy Thomas was second on Queen Charlotte B (As de Thurin x Caprilli), and McLain Ward third on Oh D’Eole (Kannan x Papillon Rouge).

Thursday was McLain Ward’s day though as he went all the way to the top on the Dutch-bred Vocas (Hors la Loi II x Voltaire) in the 1.60 class, and also topped the 1.45 class on Pjotter van de Zonnehoeve (Plato x Emillion).
