Home win for Kevin Staut in the Prix GDE at the Gucci Paris Masters

Friday, 06 December 2013

It was a great home win for Kevin Staut and Silvana HDC in Paris tonight. Photo by World of Showjumping.Kevin Staut took an extremely popular home win on his wonderful mare Silvana HDC (Corland x Widor) in the Prix GDE at the Gucci Paris Masters on Friday evening. In a jump-off against nine other riders – where four were French, much to the joy of the home crowds – Kevin produced a very fast, but still beautiful clear to steal the win from his team mate Simon Delestre.

The first round track claimed many victims, and the poles fell frequently around the twelve fence 1.50 track – plenty got in trouble in the final combination with a vertical-vertical, as well as earlier on in the triple combination at 4a, b and c. Ten went clear though and moved on to the jump-off, and as always at the Gucci Paris Masters it was top atmosphere as the riders chased each other against the clock.

First out was the new world nr. one Scott Brash on Ursula XII (Ahorn x Papageno) – but they had one down and left the door open for those to come. Laura Kraut and the cute Cedric (Chambertin x Carolus I) were next in, and took the lead as they got a great turn inside from the penultimate Longines oxer down to the final vertical to stop the clock at 36.03. One rider later Simone Delestre took her over though, after leaving the brakes on Napoli du Ry (Baloubet du Rouet x Silvio I) at the in-gate – he really went for it and the time looked very hard to beat at 34.48 seconds.

One rider on, Kevin came in and made it look easy as he guided Silvana HDC with amazing precision around the shortened seven fence track – getting great turns everywhere and in the end managing to cut of 0.05 seconds on Simon’s time to wild roars from the home crowds. Even though those to come tried to catch him – none of them could; Abdelkebir Ouaddar came closest after racing around the track on Quickly de Kreisker (Diamant de Semilly) ending third on the time of 34.66. Maikel van der Vleuten and VDL Groep Sapphire (Mr. Blue x Grand Veneur) – winners of the Grand Prix in Maastricht last weekend – continued their great form to end fourth.
