Hough and Ohlala win the Youngster Cup Final in Aachen

Saturday, 07 July 2012

Lauren Hough and Ohlala on their way to victory in the Youngster Cup Final. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Lauren Hough and Ohlala (Orlando x Cardento) repeated their winning formula from yesterday, and went all the way to the top in the Sparkassen Youngster Cup Final. “Ohlala has just been incredible all week. I’m thrilled with her,” Lauren said after the win. The final had a field of 24 riders and horses at start, who competed over an eleven fence track where nine of the competing pairs managed to leave all the fences intact. The team from Stall Berbaum where strongly represented in the jump-off, with four out of four team riders competing against the clock.

For a long time it looked like it would be a win for one of their riders, as Philipp Weishaupt early on set the time to beat at Chico 784 (Cordalme x Sandro). The German rider’s time was as good as 47.38, and looked hard to beat. But, just like yesterday, Lauren Hough entered the arena as last to go and made full use of the lovely Swedish bred mare Ohlala’s natural fast pace around the shortened track. The American rider crossed the finish line on 46.37 and took home yet another win in Aachen, pushing Philipp down to second. Marc Bettinger ended third on Zydoctro vd Kapel (Indoctro x Landwind). Lauren’s win earned her a lovely foal by For Pleasure that she got to meet during the prize giving ceremony.
