Images | Hard luck at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games

Wednesday, 03 September 2014

Riders from all over the globe have travelled to Normandy to compete at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. Quite a few were off to a rough start though, and had rounds that did not go quite according to plan in Tuesday's first competition. Photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.

AD Rahmannshof's Bogeno and Brazil's Doda de Miranda parted ways very unexpectedly on the vertical at fence nine. Smooth escape! Pius Schwizer's Toulago pulls out on the side of Mont St Michel, and the Swiss rider had to make a quick turn and jump it again. As did Jose Maria Larocca's GDE Matrix, but unlike Schwizer Larocca continued to jump the next fence and was eliminated. Jos Verlooy's Domino on the run. A very hairy moment for Jane Richard Philips and Pablo de Virton, that ended up with eight faults. A few riders really had to bite the dust; here Raena Leung. No climbing Mont St Michel for Lucy Davis and Barron. The American rider pulled herself together though, and left the rest of the track intact to end on four faults. Mario Wilson Fernandes' Zurito do Belmonte goes for a run. There goes the wall again! Neriska Prinsloo's Effect van den Bisschop slams on the breaks at the look of the scary surroundings on fence six. Rodrigo Carrasco's Bardine decides to wait for someone to take control. Copperphild tries to escape Mont St Michel, in the end with succes - as he was eliminated after two refusals.
