Patrice Delaveau and his super talented Orient Express (Quick Star x Le Tot de Semilly) took home the win in the five star Grand Prix in Gijon today. The French pair was the only one to produce a double clear, and could yet again see the French flag being raised to the top. Earlier this year Patrice and his nine year old stallion won the Falsterbo Grand Prix, and the win today showed that this is a winning combination to watch out for in the future.
British rider Bruze Menzies recorded one of his best results for the season when he secured the runner-up position on Sultan (Irco Mena x Voltaire) with a single time penalty in the second round. With such a good result – in addition to his Nations Cup double clear this weekend – Menzies must have posted a pretty good application to continue representing Britain at the highest level.
Malin Baryard-Johnsson on H&M Reveur de Hurtebise (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Capricieux des Six Censes) was third with four penalties from the first round.
Earlier today Abdullah Al Sharbatly won another class on the Irish bred gelding Larkhill Cruiser (Cruising x Crosstown Dancer). GP-winner Patrice Delaveau was second on the Kannan-gelding Baritchou DBT, while Emanuele Gaudiano from Italy was third.
