Katharina Offel started Sunday by being second with Charlie (Cornet Obolensky x Poysdam) and ended it by winning the 5* Grand Prix Hermés in Paris with Cathleen (Cordobes x Ramiro´s Son). This meant that the girl power in Paris continued and Offel was the first woman ever to win the Grand Prix Hermés.
Eleven pairs made it to the jump-off in the amazing Grand Palais in Paris and it was eleven really strong riders and horses. Maikel van der Vleuten with VDL Groep Verdi (Quidam de Revel x Landgraf), Ludger Beerbaum with Chaman (Baloubet du Rouet x I Love You), Gerco Schröder with Eurocommerce California (Corland x Ramiro), Philippe Rozier with Randgraaf (Burggraaf x Renville), Edwina Tops-Alexander with Cevo Itot du Chateau (Le Tot de Semilly x Galoubet A), Daniel Deusser with Untouchable (Hors la Loi x Heartbreaker), Denis Lynch with Abbervail van het Dingeshof (Nonstop x Jus de Pomme), Rolf-Göran Bengtsson with Casall La Silla (Caretino x Lavall), Christian Ahlmann with Taloubet Z (Galoubet A x Polydor), Billy Twomey with Tinka´s Serenade (Tinka´s Boy x African Drum) and Katharina Offel with Cathleen.
As last to go Offel took over the lead from last year's winner - Christian Ahlmann with Taloubet Z and he was just fractions ahead of Billy Twomey and Tinka´s Serenade.
"This is the most wonderful victory in my career," the Ukrainian rider said after her win. "I have been riding Cathleen for three years and am getting to know her really well. She finished 2nd in the World Cup in Lyon last November, and after that she had a dip in form and I rested her at the end of the year after the World Cup in Mechelen. This is her first major competition after her outing in Dortmund last week; I think I have managed her program well. I love the Saut Hermés at the Grand Palais, it´s really an exceptional place."
Second placed Christian Ahlmann said that Taloubet Z is even stronger than a year ago. "I hope he will keep this great form until this summer", Christian said thinking about the Olympics in London.
After the win Katharina Offel had only one thing on her mind: "To get back home as quickly as possible and give my son a big hug. That will be my way of celebrating this win."
