Jaime Guerra - Leading Showjumper of the Year

Jaime Guerra. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson. Sunday evening it was time for the Leading Showjumper of the Year class at the Horse of the Year show in Birmingham, England. The class had several good horses and riders to start including six members of the Whitaker family, but only one rider managed a double clear – Jaime Guerra from Mexico aboard his KWPN gelding Utopias (Andiamo x Kojak).

 

Out of the 23 starts – seven riders were clear and went on to the second round.  The fastest time in the second round came with Robert Whitaker and USA Today at 42.52, but that didn’t help them much as two poles fell and they had to settle for the fifth place.

Wout-Jan van der Schans and Nick Skelton were tied for second place – both with four faults and the time 42.58. Number four was Louise Whitaker, John Whitaker’s daughter, aboard the lovely grey mare Dazzle II that also John rides from time to time. Then another Whitaker with Robert on fifth, and Bruce Springsteens daughter, Jessica Springsteen, as number six. Denis Lynch had a clear first round with Lord Luis (Lasino x Alcatraz), but they had a total of nine faults in the second round which placed them as number seven.
