Switzerland's Janika Sprunger and JL's Komparse were the fastest combination in Den Bosch on Friday night, taking the victory in the 1.50 winning round competition. With twelve riders moving on to the winning round, it was bound to be fast – and it proved to be a real race against the clock in the end. When Wout-Jan van der Schans took the lead about half way, it looked almost unbeatable. The Dutch rider got a fantastic turn to the penultimate vertical and came flying into the last oxer crossing the finish line on a time of 34.31 seconds aboard Vingino (Voltaire x Cassini I).
But it turned out it was absolutely possible to go faster. Patrice Delaveau took over the lead one rider later on Carinjo HDC (Cascavelle x Landgraf I) – shaving off no less than 1.02 seconds on Wout-Jan's time after a great turn to the vertical midway and then a stretchy seven strides to the final oxer. Two riders later Katharina Offel proved again how fast she can be, and she rode an incredibly quick round on Charlie (Cornet Obolensky x Potsdam) – coming flying into the last oxer to shave off no less than 0.11 seconds on Patrice's time. It did not last to the very end for Kathi though, as Janika as last to go demonstrated how to go full speed on her wonderful 13 year old gelding to cross the finish line 0.64 seconds faster than Offel's time pushing her down to second and Delaveau to third.
