With no less than 22 horses and riders in the jump-off, it was no doubt going to be a race against the clock in the 1.50 Prize of the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois in Basel Saturday evening. In the end, it was the Netherland’s Jur Vrieling who ended on top riding the amazing and extremely versatile VDL Bubalu (Baloubet du Rouet X Nimmerdor) – taking advantage of the 14 year old stallion’s huge stride around the shortened track.
Nobody could do anything about their time of 32.76 seconds; closest came home rider Paul Estermann who rode a fantastic jump-off on a very well jumping Naiade d’Auvers (Cumano x Grand Veneur) to stop the clock on 32.91. Third place belongen to another Dutch rider – Harrie Smolders on Regina Z (Rex Z x Savoy Hanover) with a time of 33.03 seconds. The fastest round of the class came from Scott Brash, but unfortunately the British rider had the a-element in the combination down and had to settle for 10th.
