Kyle King wins the Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows

Monday, 20 June 2011

McLain Ward and Antares had the fastest time in the Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows Sunday, but with four faults they ended up fourth. Here from a previous show in Wellington. Photo by Sportfot. It was Kyle King and the Holsteiner stallion Capone I (Contender x Ladalco) who won Sunday's Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows. King rode two clear rounds and with the time 45.85 in the jump-off he managed to push the remarkable team Eric Lamaze and Hickstead (Hamlet x Ekstein) down to a second place with the time 46.36.  It was McLain Ward and the wonderful grey gelding Antares (Araconit x Cento) who had the fastest time in the jump-off at 43.40, but with four faults they ended up fourth.

There were some well known names on top of the list at Spruce Meadows. Ian Miller came third aboard Star Power (Quick Star x Calvados), while Richard Spooner and Cristallo (Caletto II x Metellus) ended up fifth - with the second fastest time of the day at 43.49.

Members from the Whitaker family had taken the long way from Europe and joined in at the prizemoney as well. Michael and Viking (Jacomar x Almoz Prints) took the 6th place, while Ellen and Equimax Ocolado (Habsburg x Calvados) were 7th.
