Lauren Hough was the winner of Thursday's biggest class at Spruce Meadows. This is what the American rider had to say about her win:
"I was able to watch Kent go, but actually I have a plan with that horse from the moment I walk the course and it doesn't normally change. She is a natural fast horse across the ground, and putting one stride in is normally faster with her than leaving one out. I had my plan and took a couple of shots here and there and I just got a little lucky today!"
Ohlala is a winner and Lauren has high hopes for the next couple of days: "She has won many, many classes on very different venues and she had a very successful week in Aachen this summer. I think this is quite similar to Aachen so I have high hopes for the weekend. If I don't screw up I think she will perform really well."
Of course Lauren had a couple of words to say about the conditions and the hard work of the Spruce Meadows team: "Hats off for the team here, I'm sure that they worked hours and hours and hours when we all were sleeping and snuggled up in our warm hotel rooms. But you really never lose faith in a venue like this with the crew that they have. You knew that they one way or another would pull off a fantastic competition and they did. I also think Leopoldo (the course designer Leopoldo Palacios Jugo) did a super job today putting the fences in the right places. Everything they needed to do they did today and it was a great competition with unbelievable prize money for the first day of the competition. I don't think you see that anywhere else in the world."
