Sunday, 27 May 2012

Leon Thijssen won today's speed class in Rome. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Leon Thijssen took home the win in Sunday’s 1.45 speed class in Rome. Aboard Ulena (Baloubet du Rouet x Indoctro), the Dutch rider went in the ring at Piazza di Siena as fourth to go and raced around the twelve fence track on the speedy mare to cross the finish line on 58.49 seconds. None of the other riders could catch Leon, and in the end it was Cassio Rivetti on Böckmanns Lazio (Lancer II x Corde la Bryere) and Shane Sweetnam on Cyclon (Cardento x Cortus) that came closest in second and third on 58.71 and 59.58. Guy Williams had the fastest time of the day though, but had to see the final oxer fall to the ground.
