Katharina Offel was the fastest rider of all in Thursday’s Longines Speed Challenge in Hong Kong. Aboard Olivia de Nantuel (Kannan x Leprince de Thurin), Kathi entered the ring almost half way in the class – and after a masterpiece of a round, which included perfect rhytm and some class turns, she shaved off 0,01 seconds on first rider and leader Patrice Delaveau’s time of 64.62 seconds. With her round Kathi proved what the competition showcased; speed and precision!
These two words perfectly describe the Longines Speed Challenge, as the challenge facing the competitors is to achieve the best time, with every bar knocked down adding a 2 second penalty. “I have to say I’m very happy and I’m very proud of my horse. The course is what I had expected, and she (Olivia De Nantuel) delivered a great performance, and today I became the lucky one," Kathi said after her win.
Patrice – who won the first class of the day on Kathi’s former ride Lacrimoso HDC (Landjunge x Cascavelle) – had to settle for second this time around on the amazing mare Ornella Mail HDC (Lando x Alligator Fontaine). “I’m very proud to be here, it’s my first time to compete in Hong Kong. It’s been very good so far,” Patrice said after the Speed Challenge was completed. Third was the always fast Pius Schwizer on Ulysse (Nonstop x Jus de Pomme), but his speedy round came on the expense of a pole down on fence ten and thus two seconds added, so the Swiss rider ended on 65.12 seconds.
