Lynch and Coulisa take the Golden Whip in Nörten-Hardenberg

Sunday, 25 May 2014

Denis Lynch and Coulisa - here seen in Den Bosch earlier this year. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Denis Lynch and the fantastic mare Coulisa won the Grand Prix of the Golden Whip in Nörten-Hardenberg. It was a difficult 1,55 course built by Frank Rothenberger and Christian Wiegan, and only four of the 52 combinations made it to the jump-off.

The time allowed was tight and cost four riders a place in the jump-off, including Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum and her new amazing ride Fibonacci (For Feeling x Corland). Also  Aimee Aron with First Choice (For Keeps x Angard), Nicole Persson with Quante (Aljano x Alcatraz) and Joachim Heyer with Aquarell PW (Argentinus x Zeus) finished with the one time penalty.

Philipp Weishaupt was first to go in the jump-off riding Cordess (Clinton x Heartbreaker). Weishaupt started off in a high speed, but two poles fell towards the end of the course as the combination lost the rythm due to a misunderstanding by the entrance.

Denis Lynch and Coulisa (Couleur-Rubin x Sandro) were next to go. The well jumping mare easily cleared the course, finishing at 40,61 seconds. Marc Houtzager and Sterrehof's Opium (Polydor x Bormio) were also clear, but a too many bucks from the fresh stallion put them behind Lynch at 41,48 seconds.

Last out was Marlon Modolo Zanotelli with Extra van Essene (Diamant de Semilly x Gotthardsen). Zanotelli really went for it and produced the best time of the day, but unfortunately the last fence fell leaving Lynch as today's winner.

"I'm very happy and the mare really worked with me," a happy Denis Lynch said to NDR after the class. The winner also explained that he did not even walk the Grand Prix course as he had got the time wrong.
