Sunday, 27 April 2014

Maikel van der Vleuten won the Dutch Championship on VDL Groep Eureka - here they are seen in Paris in March. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Maikel van der Vleuten won the Dutch Championship today on VDL Groep Eureka (Chin Chin x Quidam du Revel). Maikel, who has grown up in Mierlo where the championship took place, took a very popular win after two clear rounds in today's final part of the competition. "I have my roots here in this village, and lived here until recently. During the lap of honour, the audience stayed in the stands to cheer for me – then you notice that even though I live in Someren, I'm Mierlo-kid," Maikel smiled after his win.

The silver medal went to Jeroen Dubbeldam on Zenith SFN (Rash R x Fuego du Prelet) who ended on a four penalty score, after going into today's rounds on a clean sheet. Frank Schuttert rode to bronze on Winchester HS (Numero Uno x Nimmerdor) with a total score of 4.62 penalties.
