Maikel van der Vleuten won his first car!

Saturday, 21 January 2012

Maikel can now drive home from Leipzig in a brand new Citroën. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson. After a jump-off consisting of eight riders Maikel van der Vleuten and Vdl Groep Zandorra (Zandor Z x Kalypso) stood as winners in the Championat of Leipzig and Maikel won his first car.

Abdel Said and Duk du Mariposa (Nabab de Reve x Primo des Bruyeres) opened the jump-off and they started off fast, but got three poles down early on so Abdel slowed down and ended up with twelve faults.

Lars Nieberg and Quiletta du Domaine (Quick Star x Caletto) were next to go and Lars made a clear round with the really well jumping mare. Max Kühner with Clintop (Clinton x Visa Calvaro) made a good effort, but he couldn´t do anything about Lars' time.

The nine year old Acorte (Acorado x Stakkato) with Rolf Moormann in the saddle took over the lead, mostly because of a really good turn in to the combination. Rolf-Göran Bengtsson and Kiara La Silla (Cardento x Nurprimus) got one down already on the second fence in the jump-off and Alexandra Fricker with Albfueren´s Memphis (Quinar x Carthago) had four faults as well.

Denis Lynch and Abbervail van het Dingeshof (Nonstop x Jus de Pomme) was second last to go and he showed that he really wanted to win the car, but the last rider Maikel van der Vleuten wanted it even more! "I saw Denis' round and he was really fast so I tried to be a bit faster and it worked out this time. My mare is very fast so we were lucky to win today," Maikel says after his win.

Denis who was pushed down to the second place by the last rider said "Maikel is a naturally fast rider and he was a worthy winner today. I was simply to slow". Denis also let us know that Lantinus had fever yesterday so he won't compete anything this weekend and Abbervail van het Dingeshof will start in the World Cup tomorrow.
