Marcus Ehning back on top at Hickstead

Thursday, 28 July 2011

Marcus Ehning takes home the first big class at Hickstead. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson. The first day with showjumping at Hickstead had two classes - and the biggest one, the 1.50 class, was won by Marcus Ehning and Noltes Küchengirl (Lord Z x Cambridge Cole). The class counted 50 riders to start, and out of these 50 as many as 23 riders managed a clear round.

In the jump-off there were nine more clears, and the fastest of them all was Ehning who was followed by another German rider - Hans-Dieter Dreher on Magnus Romeo (Royal Feu x Hans Anders Z). Dreher has done an amazing job with the horse who has been with both Beat Mändli and Clarissa Crotta before he came to Dreher this spring. Dreher is this month's Rolex One to Watch after he moved up 155 places on the ranking during June. The pair did a fantastic job in Aachen and are now proving that was no coincidence. After Dreher followed John Whitaker and Argento (Arko x Gasper) who could give the home crowd something to cheer about.

The 1.45 class was won by Guy Williams on Djakarta (Thunder Van De Zuuthoeve x Holland), with Laura Kraut/Woodstock (Hors de la Loi x Ferro) and Kent Farrington/Valhalla (by Voltaire) following in second and third.
