Marina Frutuoso de Melo has made history in Portugal. The 33 year old rider won the Portuguese Championship for a sixth time last weekend. Marina rode the lovely stallion Coltaire Z (Carthago Z x Voltaire), and it is the fourth time this couple has won the championship together – which makes them historical in Portuguese context. Coltaire Z is now 15 years old, and has participated at two European Championships, ten Nation Cups and won several international Grand Prix classes.
"It was the same amazing feeling - joy and excitement - to get back the title I had before. Last year I didn't jump the championship to have the horse in the best shape for the GCT Estoril, so it feels really good to get my medal back," says Marina Frutuoso de Melo to World of Showjumping.
"Coltaire Z is back and in a great shape after the lameness that had us retired at the European Championships in Madrid last year. I feel we are now more mature, and a solid couple. I trust him so much, and he is so good that I know when I go in the ring that it is only on me. If I do ride well, we are clear - he has no careless faults! We are lucky he is a stallion and breeds a lot all around Europe. Me and my husband both ride very good youngsters by Coltaire, and they have the same good character, scope and care as the father has. Anyway, he is the horse of my life!"
