Martin Fuchs breaks the French spell in Hong Kong

Saturday, 22 February 2014

Martin Fuchs won the Prix Euroasia in Hong Kong on Saturday. Photo by World of Showjumping.Switzerland’s Martin Fuchs made sure that the French did not get yet another win in Hong Kong, when he took home the 1.45 Prix Euroasia on Saturday morning. Riding the super quick 10 year old gelding PSG Future (Cashandcarry x Lorentin I), Martin did two great clear rounds – with a jump-off that was in another league than those of his competitors. The young Swiss rider opened up by taking out one stride on the first line, doing seven instead of eight – and from there on he raced around the seven fence shortened track not once pulling back. When he crossed the finish line on the time of 32.02 seconds it looked as good as unbeatable.

Closest to Martin came Marc Houtzager. After having a bad meeting with some of the poles at an oxer in the first class yesterday, Sterrehof’s Uppity (Guidam x Epilot) was back to his best today with the Dutch rider – jumping two super double clears and a jump-off that stopped the clock at 33.83 seconds. Third came Cameron Hanley – that has had a great show so far in Hong Kong – with Newton du Haut Bois (Cumano x Quat' Sous). The Irish rider was double clear, at a time of 34.05 seconds in the jump-off.
