Meredith and Bella Donna win their Grand Prix debut

Saturday, 18 June 2011

Meredith Michaels Beerbaum and Bella Donna made a great debut! Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Eight riders and horses managed to get through the first round of the Championat von Balve in the pouring rain in Germany today. The German rider Jörg Naeve on Coolidge (Clinton I x Contender) was first to go in the jump-off. He made a really good start with short turns and big canter but unfortunately the last fence fell to the ground.

Then it was time for the very experienced 17 year old Mac Kinley (Goodwill x Nimmerdor). The gelding has had great success with both Mario Stevens and his previous rider Rolf-Göran Bengtsson. But today the couple Mario Stevens and Mac Kinley also had to hear a pole fall to the ground and the time was a bit slower than Jörg Naeve's. Max Kühner and Lacapo (Landor x Argentinus) didn´t do the fastest round but they did a clear round, so they took over the lead. Judy-Ann Melchior on her only eight year old stallion Asca Z (Askari x Carthago) was next. The couple did a safe clear round that was exactly one second slower than Max Kühners time and ended up with a timefault.

The amazing eight year old mare Bella Donna (Baldini I x Calido I) from Meredith Michaels Beerbaum did her first international Grand Prix today and she did it amazingly good and was next to go in the jumpoff. Meredith didn´t go all in, but she made some really short turns and brought them in the lead. Bella Donna was earlier owned by a very good friend of Meredith, and Meredith has been a part of their training since Bella Donna was four years old. Since it is so hard to find horses like the amazing mare Meredith said to her friend that if and when Bella Donna would be on the market, Meredith would like to have the chance to by her, and it turns out to be a really good buy.

Oliver Lemmer on Louisa (Limbus x Carthago) really wanted to win, but the last fence fell he ended up in eight place. Next one to go was Hans-Dieter Dreher with Constantin B (Contendro I x Espri. The first part of the jump-off was a real joy to watch. Hans-Dieter trusted his horse and the horse didn't let him down, but they got some real struggle towards the last fence and which ended up with four faults. Charlotte Lund from Denmark on the stallion Cartani (Carthago x Landgraf) was the last one in the jump-off. When she entered the arena the heaven opened up and the rain went even heavier. But the rain certainly didn´t disturb Cartani and the pair ended up second.
