Michael Whitaker takes day two in Abu Dhabi

Friday, 25 November 2011

Michael Whitaker & Mr. Darcy. Photo by Stefano Grasso/GCT.The second day in Abu Dhabi had only one class on the program - a 1.45/1.50 class,  table A special Mix with one jump-off.  Michael Whitaker and Mr Darcy (Darco x Nut des Garandos) was the only combination that managed to prevent Pius Schwizer and Ulysse (Nonstop x Jus de Pomme) from taking a double, as they crossed the finish line 0.6 second faster than Schwizer.  Mr Darcy is a a ten year old stallion that's been competing with great success under Whitaker's stable jockey Joe Clayton back in England. Alvaro de Miranda  and Ad Rahmannshof's Bogeno (Baloubet du Rouet x Elanville) came third, only 0.08 seconds ahead of Cassio Rivetti riding Böckmanns Lazio (Lancer II x Cor de la Bruyère) on fourth

Many riders choose to ride their second horses today, and saved their number ones for the big final tomorrow. Eight out of 38 riders were double clear, twelve riders went on to the jump-off, but only elleven of them entered the jump-off as Clarissa Crotta choose to save Westside vd Meerputhoeve (Baloubet du Rouet x Apollonios) for the final. Ludger Beerbaum schooled Chaman (Baloubet du Rouet x I Love You) around the course to one time penalty, while yesterday's winners Leopold van Asten and VDL Groep Quinara ended at eight fault today.
