French rider Michel Robert lit up the GCT in Monaco with a lightning quick jump off and show the young guns of show jumping how its done.
Fourteen stars of show jumping lined up for the jump off at the glamorous show ground in Monte-Carlo where James Bond star Sir Roger Moore and his family were among VIP guests at the hospitality suite of GCT President Jan Tops. The 007 legend watched the veteran rider Michel deliver a thrilling round on his grey gelding Nenuphar'jac to cheers and whistles from the crowds. His winning time of 33.51 was only a fraction ahead of German rider Christian Ahlmann on 33.58 on his stunning grey Aragon.
Highly experienced American rider Laura Kraut set the pace going flat out on her chestnut mare Teirra and finishing in 33.61. She was fast over the white oxer and into the second upright. Laura took a tight turn into the vertical double combination racing to the final HSBC fence.
But a cool round by Ahlmann with another quick sprint to the final HSBC obstacle pipped Laura's time pushing her into third place. Christian Ahlmann said: "I rode as fast as possible. I saw Laura and she was really good. I took all the risks. It was not fast enough to win but I am really happy with second place."
But a spectacular slate of speed riders won through to the jump off including Rodrigo Pessoa, Denis Lynch, Roger-Yves Bost and Ben Maher. Hans-Dieter Dreher put up a strong challenge finishing fourth in 33.90. And Denis Lynch was fast on his impressive bay stallion All Star finishing sixth behind Rodrigo Pessoa on HH Ashley.
