Mylord Carthago will be sold at the auction. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson. The entire stock of 26 competition stallions belonging to France-Haras will be offered for sale by auction by ARQANA on Monday 8 September, the day after the final of the World Equestrian Games in the prestigious Elie de Brignac sales complex in Deauville. These horses will feature a number of famous performers, some of which are still competing as well as some which are renowned sires boasting fantastic genes.

In total the catalogue will offer 26 competition stallions from French warm bloods, to foreign breeds and competition ponies, including a number of famous athletes still actively competing such as Mylord Carthago (by Carthago Z, born in 2000, Olympic Games, 12 international victories including five Grand Prix 5* and the Nations Cup at Aix-la-Chapelle, World and European team vice-champion), who has just made a successful return to the international circuit with a victory in the Prix RMC, a 1m50 class at the CSIO 5 * at La Baule under his usual rider Pénélope Leprévost; as well as Padock du Plessis (by Kannan, born in 2003, 3 international victories including a recent one at Lummen, a third-place in a CSIO 5* at Lummen and a near perfect score at the Nations Cup at Saint-Gall for the French team last weekend), a horse very much on an upward curve and with a strong potential for the highest level. A member of the FFE group JO-JEM, Padock du Plessis is on the longlist of preselected horses for the World Equestrian Games this summer.

Several renowned sires boasting the best genes will also go through the ring on Monday 8 September such as Flipper d'Elle (by Double Espoir, born in 1993, 25 international victories), who has sired around 40 horses competing at CSI level, Luccianno (by Burggraaf, born in 1999, 12 international victories (including the Nations Cup in Rome, Saint-Gall and Rotterdam) and the sire of 11 horses on the international circuit including Renoir du Dojo exported to Qatar, as well as the well-regarded stallion Ogrion des Champs, (by Kannan, born in 2002, 2nd on the sires of five year-old horses leaderboard and sixth on the sires of six-year-olds leaderboard in 2013).

Also note the sale of stallions or complete stocks of frozen semen of pure bred SF and AA stallions many of which have a high genetic value and competed at the highest level: Apache d'Adriers, Elan de la Cour, Hurlevent de Breka, L'Amour du Bois, Nectar des Forets, Négus de Talma, Quercus du Maury (AA), ...

The catalogue will be available in print as well as in digital format from the ARQANA website ( where each stallion will be presented with a factsheet including its pedigree, photos and videos.

Trying out the stallions with a sporting potential will be strictly monitored by France Haras. One single location for all competition stallions will be set up in August at the end of their covering season and will be selected by France-Haras in mid June as a result of an ongoing consultation. Veterinary records appropriate to the discipline of each stallion, both in the breeding shed and those competing will meanwhile be available for buyers at ARQANA.

In order not to disturb the sporting progress at the highest level for Padock du Plessis, or the return to competition at the highest level for Mylord Carthago, these two stallions will be stationed in their respective riders until they are sold. No tests will be permitted for these two stallions.

Mylord Carthago, the legendary French stallion, silver medalist at the World Championships in 2010 and the European Championships in 2011, will be sold on the international market with the obligation to compete in French colours until the end of his sporting career.
