Nations Cup at Hickstead - the teams

Wednesday, 27 July 2011

The winning British team from Hickstead last year; W.Funnel, T. Fletcher, P.Charles and M.Whitaker. Photo by Kit Houghton/FEI.The traditional show at Hickstead has already been kicked off earlier this week, and at 2.15 pm Friday, the Nations Cup is on. There were some changes after the legs in Falsterbo and Aachen, and the pressure is most certainly on for severeal of the teams. USA, Belgium and France are all struggling in the bottom of the Top League with respectively 18.5, 21 and 22 points. They all have to fight for their place in the Top League in 2012.

Holland is on top with 39.5 points in front of Ireland on 30 and Germany on 27. It should be a strong lead for Holland, but in this sport things change before you know it. Host nation Great Britain holds the fourth place with 25 points, which means that they too need to show some good performances over the last three legs to save their Top League position. Last year Great Britain won at Hickstead – lets hope for the home crowd that they are able to repeat this on Friday.

Peter Charles
Bruce Menzies
