New combinations out and about

Monday, 13 February 2012

Two to watch: Edwina and Erenice Horta. All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.Several new horse and rider combinations have been out and about in January & February. One of the most exciting ones is probably Erenice Horta (Diamant de Semilly x Parco) and Edwina Tops-Alexander. This lovely grey 8 year old mare has been competed by Edwina since January, and in Zürich they did their first big outing together. In Zürich Erenice Horta was placed in a 1.40 class, and in Bordeaux the mare was yet again clear in a 1.40 class and placed with one time penalty in a 1.45 class as well as notching up a full score in a 1.50 accumulator class. Erenice Horta is definitely one to watch, and is a great match for Edwina!

Copin van de Broy fits Marcus Ehning like a hand in a glove.Marcus Ehning is another rider with two new horses to look out for. In Zürich Marcus showed off Gregory Wathelet’s former ride Copin van de Broy (Darco x Brownboy) for the first time; and the two fit each other really well – this could for sure be a new superstar for Marcus. In Zürich the new pair had one clear round, and one round with only one time fault. In Bordeaux they were placed in Friday’s 1.40 class, and had a full score in Sunday’s 1.50 accumulator class. Ehning also had some good rounds on Champion F.P (Champion du Lys x For Pleasure) in Leipzig and Zürich; this stallion came to Marcus from Andreas & Christian Schou in January.

A new ride for Harrie: Cluysenaer.Harrie Smolders is another one with some nice new rides. In Basel & Zürich he showed off the impressive BWP-stallion Cluysenaer (Calido x Heartbreaker) that he has had the ride on since January. To Zürich Harrie also brought his new ride Brillante (Heureka de Loge x Oberon du Moulin). This 11 year old mare has a background that is a little different than that of her fellow competitors; she made her five star debut in Zürich after spending most of her life as a mother. Brillante has had five foals before she turned her head to the international showjumping circuit with Harrie – her last foal came in 2011 and was after Emerald.
