O'Brien officially retired

Friday, 03 February 2012

Angelique Hoorn and O'Brien in action in Copenhagen last year, where they were double clear in the Nations Cup. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson. The lovely stallion O’Brien (Peter Pan x Goudsmid) was thanked off in s’Hertogenbosch yesterday during the KWPN stallion selection. Ridden by Angelique Hoorn and flanked by torch bearers, the stallion received loud applause from the audience. The breeders and owners of the KWPN, NRPS and AES approved stallion, Mrs. MJ Nieberg and Mr. R.  Boogerd from Rhenen, were thanked for their contribution to the success of the stallion.

O'Brien has had a great career, and were together with Angelique Hoorn number eight at the Olympic Games in Kong Kong in 2008. The stallion injured a tendon in Calgary in 2009, but managed to get back and prove that he still was a horse to look out for. Last summer, the stallion once again injured a tendon. This time the injury unfortunately put an end to his sporting career.
