Olympic Teams - Part Two

Saturday, 28 July 2012

Christian Ahlmann and Codex One. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson. Now it is time to present another Olympic team from the folders that are handed out by the federations. This time it is Germany that's in the spotlight.

Christian Ahlmann was born on the 17th of December 1974 and will do his third Olympics. Christian has already secured several championship-medals under the German flag. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens Christian was part of the team who got the bronze medal. In 2003 he won the European Championship with the team and as an individual. Christian was also a part of the winning team at the Europeans in 2005, and in 2007  when the German team got  team silver.

In London Christian will ride the 10 year old stallion Codex One - a Hanoveranian by Contendro I x Glueckspilz, owned by Marion Jauss. Codex One is breed by Wilhelm Berghorn in Germany. As reserve horse Christian has Taloubet Z, a 12 year old stallion by Galoubet A x Polydor. Taloubet's breeder is C.T. Klaver in the Netherlands, and he is owned by Leon and Judy-Ann Melchior as well as Christian himself. Emma Lindgren from Sweden is taking care of Christian's horses.

Marcus Ehning with Plot Blue. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson. Marcus Ehning was born in the same year as Christian on the 19th of April. Marcus will do his second Olympics as he also was a part of the German team in Sidney in 2000 where he was on the winning team. As an individual Marcus ended fourth in Sidney so this time he is probably in for an individual medal as well. In 2010 Marcus was part of the winning team at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky, and he also has three European team golds to look back at.

Marcus will ride the15 year old stallion Plot Blue by Mr. Blue x Pilot. Plot's breeder is F.C.M Burgers in the Netherlands and he is owned by Kathrin Somogyi and Marcus Ehning. Copin van de Broy will be Marcus reserve horse and he is a 10 year old stallion by Darco x Brownboy. Breeder is Stal de Broy Lecoque Engelbosch, and Marcus owns the stallion together with Fabien Schreiber. Marcus groom is Kay Neatham, that you might know from her great blogs on World of Showjumping.

Janne Meyer with Lambrasco. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Janne-Friederike Meyer is one of two ladies in the German team. She is born the 12 of January 1981 and will do her Olympic debut in London. In 2010 Janne-Friedrike was a paty of the German winning team at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky, and last year she also took team gold at the European Championship in Madrid. Janne was riding Lambrasco on both occasions and he will be her partner in London as well.

Lambrasco is a dark bay gelding, born in 1998. He is by Archill-Libero H x Coriolan. Breeder is ZG Heike and Joerg Bigeng, Germany and owner Friedrich Meyer. Victoria Karliczek is Janne's groom and takes care of Lambrasco.

Meredith Michaels Beerbaum was reserve at first, but had to step in when Philipp Weishaupt horse Monte Bellini got sick and had to stay home. Meredith is a Christmas child, born at the 26th of December 1969. She will now do her second Olympics and at the last Olympic Games she was fourth individually. Meredith was also a big part on the winning team from the World Equestrian Games in 2010 with Checkmate and has been on the winning team at the Europeans twice. In 2007 Meredith won the European Championship and was second with the team.

Meredith Michaels Beerbaum with Bella Donna. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Meredith will ride the only nine year old Bella Donna. She is a Holsteiner by Baldini x Calido I and breed by Pater Nagel-Tornau, Germany. The owner is Meredith herself and EOS Sport, Luxembourg. The finish girl Anu Harrila has been Meredith's groom for several years, and she will go to London to take care of Bella Donna.

The German Chef d'Equipe is Otto Becker who has been riding on top level himself and been doing several Olympic Games and World Championships for his country. He is born on the third of December 1958.
