Aboard Verdi III (Hors La Loi II x Cantus) Pius Schwizer took home Saturday’s biggest class in Donaueschingen. The 1.50 class – which also served as qualifier for the Masters League final – saw eleven riders proceeding to the jump-off, where Pius was almost a second faster than the 21 year old Katrin Eckermann who has rocketed into international showjumping stardom over the last months with her excellent results. Another young and talented German rider was third; Philipp Weishaupt on Souvernir (Stakkato x Lemon) showed his skills inside the ring this weekend. Weishaupt was only fractions behind Eckermann on the clock.
The Swiss success continued in the Preis der Freunde und Förderer when Janika Sprunger had a tied win alongside German rider Tobias Meyer. This was another 1.50 class with a winning round, and Lars Nieberg took third.
Henrik von Eckermann was yet again victorious when he took home the top prize in the 1.40 class on Gut Neuenhofs Bacarole (Baloubet du Rouet x Weinberg).
