Quotes after the Longines FEI World Cup in Oslo

Sunday, 19 October 2014

"It’s the first World Cup I win and also the first World Cup start for Zirocco," Jur told the press after his win in Oslo Photo by World of Showjumping. The winner Jur Vrieling on winning the opening leg of the Western European League Longines FEI World Cup; “It was really good. It’s the first World Cup I win and also the first World Cup start for Zirocco. A start like this is amazing. The course designers did a good job. It was heavy and technical enough, but it was not crazy. The horses did not have to stretch too crazy so it was a good start to the season. For me Zirocco jumped really good. I was a bit nervous to have Marco Kutscher behind me, he is my idol. I watched his first round and it was so beautiful, I knew he was going to beat me. But now when he was 0,7 seconds slower than me today I like him even more..”

Marco Kutscher on his plan for the jump-off going in last; “My horse Cornet’s Cristallo is very fast if he is in a jump-off. I saw the other jump-offs and they were going faster and faster. Jur was the only rider choosing the option to go on five strides down to the last oxer. My plan was to do that as well, but I came too close to the second last fence and I thought it would get too long so I decided to do the six strides instead. Either way I am really happy with my result because it is already a few months since I last could go to a press conference. It is a good start for me especially because I can not choose what World Cup shows I go to. Now I got some points and I will have the chance to get to ride more World Cups - so a good day for me.”

Steve Guerdat on his rounds with Nino des Buissonnets; “I am very happy. My horse jumped amazing both rounds. It was his first show after the World Championship and he felt very good already the first two days in the small classes. The jump-off did not have the best options for me with leaving a stride out to the last fence. I don’t like to do that with Nino too much. Already in the first round I added an extra stride to that line. Today that made us too slow, but I am very pleased. All week went very well with all my horses and the way Nino is feeling and jumping I think he will have a good indoor season again. The others were better today and I can only congratulate them on that.”

Jur on the importance of picking up points in the beginning of the season; “For me it is the same as for Marco. In Holland we have many good riders and everybody would like to ride some World Cups. The coach has to decide who goes where and you have to fight for the places. We all get two shows too ride and the ones with points will go on so it is good for me to already have a lot of points.”

Jur about his horse VDL Zirocco Blue N.O.P; “I have had him since he was four years. They had some problems and could not sit on him. They know that I am so crazy that I would actually try so there was a lot of challenge in the beginning. But he always jumped with a lot of quality. He is a little bit brutal, but that is also his best point because he is never afraid of anything. For example in the jump-off you can turn him very short to a fence so this starts to work very positive for him.”
