Quotes after the Mercedes-Benz Nations Cup in Aachen

Thursday, 17 July 2014

Belgium's Chef d'Equipe Kurt Gravemeier praised his winning team. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Belgian Chef d'Equipe Kurt Gravemeyer on his team's win;

"With such a young crew that delivers like that when it gets tight in round two, I can be nothing but extremely proud. I look forward to work focused towards the World Equestrian Games in Normandy. But first, we are going to enjoy today’s great result."

Dutch Chef d'Equipe Rob Ehrens on the Dutch third place;

“We are happy. From the first round we had two clear rounds and one time penalty. The second round started a little bit less, but we are really happy being at a big show like this ending in the top three. I must give my compliments to my team. They did a really good job. Frank Schuttert is still a young rider so I am really pleased with the third place.“

American Chef d'Equipe Robert Ridland on his young girls (and Kent Farrington);

“It is always a privilege to compete here in Aachen. We had a good day yesterday and another good day today. What was really gratifying today was that we were almost out after the first round, mathematically we were, but they came and got back in there.”

Gregory Wathelet, on securing the win on Conrad de Hus after he just lost his former top horse Sea Coast Forlap DC;

“I knew he was a really good horse, but I did not know if he would be ready. Now we need to get him ready for the World Equestrian Games and the first step was riding here.”

Lucy Davis on riding one of the best horses in the world - Barron;

“It feels like you are flying. He is amazing. I am so lucky to have him and he once again gave his heart. He was on super form and I really can not thank him enough.”

Otto Becker on the German team going from four clear rounds in round one to end fourth;

"We had some unlucky mistakes in the second round, but in the end we were not good enough today. Even with the first round it was not enough. In Falsterbo we were fifth after the first round, but ended up winning. That is how the sport is. In this moment the good thing is that Katrin Eckermann and Firth of Lorne are ok.”
