Quotes after the Rolex Grand Prix in Aachen

Sunday, 08 July 2012

A very happy Michael after his win. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Michael denied the rumors about him writing his own name on the winners wall of the Grand Prix of Aachen earlier this week, and replied: “Anyway, it’s true now!”

Michael on GIG Amai: “GIG Amai got an injury in Rotterdam last year and had nine months off, so he has come back now and this was the fourth or fifth show for him this season. He is been getting into form, and you could feel him getting stronger and fitter for every show and everything came together at the right time.”

Michael on what kind of a horse GIG Amai is: “GIG Amai is a very entusiastich horse, and very competitive. He is an old fashion type of horse, but really, really careful.”

Michael on the track: “The first round was really tough, and the triple combination towards the end was really hard getting out of – it took some jumping.”

Michael on his feelings: “I feel very, very happy about the win! My first Grand Prix in Aachen was in 1984, and I was third there.”

On the question of whether or not the British selectors will now reconsider their team Michael laughed and said: “They should do!”

And on whether or not that is a possibility: “I don’t know! You’re talking to the wrong guy [again laughs]!”

Thomas Voss on his second place: “I got Carinjo as a six year old, and he had become a Holstein Champion Stallion. I have been riding him and developed him since then, and I’m really pleased with his results over the last years. I am very happy about being second here today, going out as the first rider in the jump-off is never easy.”

Meredith on her third place: “I have to practice going faster with Bella Donna, so that is the plan for the future as it’s not really in her instincts to go really fast. Anyway – she did great, she is only nine years old and jumped two clear rounds here so I couldn’t be happier with her.”

Meredith on the possibility of going to the Olympics as the fifth rider: “I think every German wants to go to the Olympics, and an English guy too!”

Meredith on the course in the first round: “I think it was one of the most difficult courses that has been build in Aachen. But in the end we had seven clear rounds, and that was a perfect result. It was a difficult course, but still fair.”
