Quotes from Falsterbo; "It takes a lunatic to ride a Lunatic"

Friday, 13 July 2012

The home crowds went nuts when Jens took over the lead. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson. The Swedish Chef d'Équipe Sylve Söderstrand started off the press conference by thanking the fantastic audience in Falsterbo. "I don´t think you can find a better audience anywhere in the world. They are amazing. Then I have to thank our trainer Hans Horn who always supports us and of course a big thanks to these four great riders. Our goal before the class was to be among the top three - it is really hard to win - and we got a very exciting class!"

Jens Fredricson who secured the win for Sweden couldn´t have been more happy. "It was my day today. I had a great feeling already in the morning and went in to the class with good self confidence. Lunatic jumped good in the first round but was even better in the second. Then when it was time for the jump-off it was "make it or break it". I hate to be second so I gave it all. It takes a lunatic to ride a Lunatic."

Malin Baryard-Johnsson pointed out that Jens self confidence showed already at the course walk when he sad that the course looked so small. About her own ride, Malin said; "The feeling was good, but eight faults is not a good result. The first fault was on the vertical before the open water and he knew the water was coming and landed a bit too early. And then we were a bit close to the last fence.

"I had two very bad rounds," said Henrik at the press conference. "I am so happy and honored to be on a team like this, both as friends and as team mates - this is a super team. But it was not my day today! Tomorrow is a new day and we will go through the videos and see what happened. I didn´t expect to get such a bad result today, but I just have to keep going and hopefully we be in the best shape to the Olympics"

Rolf was very happy with Ninja that did his first Nations Cup for over a year. "I had a great feeling. Ninja La Silla really knows when it is for real. Before the second round he felt a bit quiet and easy going on the warm up, but when we rode through the gate and heard the audience he grew and put in another gear. I didn´t ride that well to the fence after the water. So I was in a bit of trouble there, but Ninja La Silla sorted that out for me. "
