Quotes from the Longines FEI World Cup in Mechelen

Monday, 30 December 2013

Daniel with the key to his new Land Rover. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson."It is fantastic to end 2013 in this way" said a very happy Daniel after his win. "I have had a super year and I know it is hard to repeat that next year, but I hope we can continue the good form."

Daniel did see Jens and Lunatic's jump-off before he went in and said this about their round; "Lunatic is a very fast horse, so my alarm botton was on and I really had to try. I decided to take one stride less to the double vertical and I did have a bit of luck there, but luckily the poles stayed. Cornet jumps the doubles really well so I knew it was there I could catch in a bit on Jens' time."

Jens couldn't be on the press conference, as he had to catch his flight back to Sweden but left some quotes to the press office. "I was third in the World Cup here last year and now second. So I would really like to be back next year to win! My focus won't be on the World Cup this season and I will just do a couple of more indoor shows such as Gothenburg. My main focus for next year is on the outdoor shows."

Pilar was really pleased with her third place: "I started as number two and I did try to be faster than Jens, but it is really difficult. I'm so happy with my horse today, he was great."

Daniel got the question about how difficult the course really was since only four rider managed to clear it: "It was difficult, but to be honest I expected more clear rounds when I walked the course. In my point of view the most challenging thing was that the course had a lot of long distances and then in between a short distance, for example in the double."
