Quotes from the winning team following the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup in Falsterbo

Friday, 11 July 2014

The German team celebrating their win in Falsterbo. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Chef d'Equipe Otto Becker: "I am very happy with my team – there were a few younger riders on it, and not so experienced horses so I said before the competition that we were not expecting to win today. The atmosphere here was fantastic today, with the Swedish clear rounds and a full house – and it was exciting to the end."

Katrin Eckermann on her contribution to the German win on Firth of Lorne; "I had a time fault in the first round, but the second round was good – and the horse felt great so I am happy."

Andre Thieme: "I was on a very young, talented, but green horse – so I was not 100 % sure how it was going to go, but I am very happy now. First I was in trouble, because I had in both rounds a time fault – and the man over there (Otto Becker) did not like that so much. But then in the end it worked out, and the time faults were not that bad and I am very happy."

Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum: "First of all I want to say thank you to my team mates, it was a pleasure riding with these guys today. They showed some extra class. We had a hard fight in the second round, but they really pulled through. The course today I thought was really good. In the second round there were a couple of fences that were higher, and there were a lot more faults. It was a great competition!"

Meredith was also asked about her horse Fibonacci 17 – previously seen under Swedish rider Lisen Bratt Fredricson: "He is like a rock star here in Sweden. I am absolutely delighted to have this horse in my stable, I have had him for a little less than three months now and we go together incredibly I must say. This was his very first Nations Cup and he jumped beautiful today. He is a delight to ride and to have; he is a very sensitive horse, but has incredible ability and is careful and scopey – and has a fantastic mind."

First round clear rider Patrick Stühlmeyer said this: “It’s my first time in Falsterbo, and its great here. The crowds are very good, and it’s a nice show.”
