Otto Becker on today’s performance; ”It was a great day for us, compliment to my riders. The hardest job was for Philipp Weishaupt today; he was sweating like hell! No – but I must say, Marcus did a great job with two super clear rounds as first to go. Rolf Moormann was not so often on a team like this, and also did a great job with one clear round and an unlucky fault in the second round – and Carsten Otto was double clear so I am totally happy. When we see this; the facilities, the atmosphere, a full stadium – and a very good course in my opinion, I am totally happy.”
And on the points – or lack of points – in the series; "I think this is a special story after we retired in St. Gallen. I think we have no chance to qualify for the final. The FEI made the decision that at the other three shows we can get points, but in the end we need a little wonder and win all three – but I think we have no chance to qualify for the final. But it doesn’t matter; we made the decision in St. Gallen and would do it again. For sure we are not satisfied that we have no chance to qualify for the final, but we have to live with this. First we tried to win today, and then we try again at Hickstead – and that’s all we can do.”
Marcus Ehning on his two rounds and the win; “First of all I am for sure very happy. I had a little bit of a hard start in the first round as I was first to go, but my horse has a lot of experience and I know him quite well and he did a fantastic job. I would also like to say thank you very much to the fantastic crowd; it was unbelievable – they are behind all the riders and not only the Swedish ones and that’s also very nice.
Carsten Otto Nagel on his performance; “I am really happy with this result. It’s a super show here and a super atmosphere, and to win here is amazing. We had a strong team, and I am really happy with Corradina who was double clear, she felt amazing.”
Philipp having fun on the question if he was sorry not to ride; “My horse also felt really good in the prize giving, and he was standing quiet and did the pictures with his ears forward. So, I think – no this doesn’t happen to often that you don’t have to ride any rounds. It was an easy win for me and I feel a bit bad actually. But one the other hand I hope for a good result on Sunday, and I have a fresh horse in the Grand Prix [Philipp is pre qualified for the class].”
Otto Becker on the question if he would have had a different team here if things had been differently after St. Gallen; “It had nothing to do with this. St Gallen was a special case, and we are not happy with the decision. But we made the decision and would do it again. We would not complain if the Nations Cup had been finished completely, but the second round was cancelled and the day after the entire show was cancelled. But in the end we know we did the right decision, and like I said we would do it again. The thought behind the final in Barcelona was that very nation worldwide should get the same chance to qualify, but now for us it means we have three chances – the rest they have four. That is why we are not happy. But we would do the same decision as we made in St. Gallen again.”
Marcus on the question if it is stupid not to have the German team in Barcelona; "It is!”
