Rivetti revs up to win the big speed class on day one of Monaco GCT

Friday, 29 June 2012

Cassio Rivetti won in Monte Carlo. Photo by Sportfot/GCT.The competition, in hot and humid conditions, gave some of the world’s top riders a chance to prepare their Grand Prix horses ahead of Saturday’s big event at the GCT in Monaco. The glamorous atmosphere was enhanced with dramatic multi-coloured lights as the first three riders entered the arena for the prize giving ceremony. And in the background outside the arena, jubilant Italian football fans could be heard revving up their sports cars in celebration after Italy won through to the final of the Euro 2012 championships. Cassio Rivetti blazed a trail in the big speed class of the night winning the Prix Massimo Dutti at the Global Champions Tour in Monaco.

Rivetti, riding in the Ukranian colours, delivered an impressive win on the bay stallion Bockmann’s Lazio in the two-phase competition in the floodlit arena at the Monte-Carlo yacht harbour.  The 1m50 class was divided into two phases. Riders had to work their way to go clear through the first part of the course, then the clock was set to zero for the fast second phase. If they had any faults in the first part, it was added to their final score.  Rivetti jumped clear in both phases and finished in 24.52 with Britain’s Scott Brash coming in second on 24.83 on Bon Ami. American rider Laura Kraut was third on 25.37 riding Teirra and Michael Whitaker for Great Britain was fourth on Viking in 25.62.
