Rodrigo Pessoa and Citizenguard Cadjanine Z made it a win in the DKB-Riders Tour qualification in Hannover on Saturday. The pair – who has been together since July – has already formed a strong partnership, and today they were the best combination of the 56 riders in the 1.50 Solem Luxembourg Preis. It was an exciting class, where thirteen went clear over Frank Rothenberger’s twelve course track and made it to the jump-off.
The first clear in the jump-off came from in-form Robert Whitaker and Catwalk 16 (Colman x Corleone) who was third in yesterday’s 1.45 class at the German Classics. The British rider was fast, and got seven great forward strides on the line from the DKB vertical to the penultimate vertical before he raced around the short side of the ring to the final oxer crossing the finish line on 33.52 seconds. Willem Greve was next in on the lovely Carambole (Cassini I x Concerto II), but was slower at 35.67.
Rodrigo then entered the ring. Getting a super rhythm from the start, the Brazilian rider chased every second of Robert’s time taking advantage of his mare's big canter. The fantastically stylish rider also got a perfect seven strides on the line to the penultimate vertical before he got a very good turn to the final oxer – and managed to shave off 0,79 seconds on Robert’s time to take the lead.
Nobody could catch Rodrigo and Robert – although they tried. Closest came Ukraine’s Ference Szentirmai on Quickdiamond (Quick Lauro X Catango), who settled for third at a time of 35.01. The best time of the day belonged to second last to go Laura Kraut on Vindicat W (Guidam x Libero H) – but unfortunately for the American rider the back pole on the last oxer fell, but she was still awarded by the enthusiastic audience for her efforts.
