Rolf-Göran Bengtsson wins prestigious award at Swedish Sports Gala

Tuesday, 17 January 2012

Rolf won the 'Jerring Prize' yesterday. Here he is with Ninja La Silla at the Europeans. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Rolf-Göran Bengtsson got Sweden’s most prestigious sports award at last night’s Swedish Sports Gala. The ‘Jerring Prize’ is given to a Swedish athlete for a successful sports achievement under the past year, and what makes it very special is that it’s also the people’s choice award as the Swedish public cast their votes for the nominees. Rolf was up again some great competition, with one of the world's best cross country skiers Marcus Hellner as his last duellist. But, after a gold medal at the European Championship and other major achievements in 2011 – Rolf got the most votes and was crowned the winner of this highly rated award.

In his speech Rolf thanked his sponsor Alfonso Romo, his business partner Bo Kristoffersen, his mother Elsa, his long time groom Celia and his top horse Ninja La Silla – to mention some. Rolf also quoted Muhammad Ali, and said emotionally; “The man who has no imagination has no wings.”
