Rozier takes the Rolex Speed Challenge in Paris

Sunday, 04 December 2011

Another French speed machine; Philippe Rozier. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Philippe Rozier and Ideal de Roy (Quidam de Revel x Grand Veneur) raced to victory in this morning’s 1.45 speed class at the Gucci Masters. It was speed machine Julien Epaillard on Mister Davier (Quiniou x Leprince de Thurin) who took an early lead on the very fast time 57.58 as fifth to go. The French rider was chased by the remaining starting field, but one after another failed to do anything about Epaillard.

It was not until Philippe Rozier came in right at the end – he was the 32nd to go – that the lead changed hands. On his chestnut gelding Rozier set off in a blistering tempo, cutting every corner and racing around the twelve fence track – the result was almost impossible to believe as he managed to cut the time down to 56.93. The home crowds exploded in applause over Rozier’s efforts. None of the last riders in the class could match the French rider’s time, and the result was double French on top while Sergio Alvares Moya came third on Sirius (Laroche x Tolbert) on the time 58.01. It was a good day for Rozier who won a Rolex and cashed in 10.000 Euro.
