Shutterfly retired in Aachen today

Sunday, 17 July 2011

Super star Shutterfly was retired in Aachen today. All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson. After their win in the 1.55 class in Aachen Wednesday night, Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum decided to withdraw Shutterfly from today's Grand Prix and retire him while he is still on top. The wonderful gelding has been with Michaels-Beerbaum since he was six years old and according to his groom Anu Harrila he likes people - as long as they are not strangers. What he doesn't like though is getting the saddle on and he definitely doesn't like prize giving ceremonies - which is why he hasn't been to one since he was nine years old although he has had millions of chances. Today he was the center of attention in Aachen though, retiring in front of the huge crowd.

Together with Shutterfly Michaels-Beerbaum has won more than most riders can ever dream of. There have been more Grand Prix's than you can count, three World Cup finals, medals from both the Europeans and World Championships and so on.
