As the final rider in the jump-off, Simon Delestre gave the home crowds in Lyon the perfect ending to the evening when he won the Equita Masters presented by Equidia Life. Riding Ryan des Hayettes (Hugo Gesmeray) that also ended third in the Longines Grand Prix on Friday, Simon made it all the way to the top in this prestigious 1.60 class which a total of twenty riders were qualified for.
With a very fast round from Lauren Hough and Royalty des Isles (Zandor Z), who had taken over the lead from Constant van Paesschen and Citizenguard Understone van de Kapel (Happy Wind D'hof Ten Bos x Gladstone) Delestre had little choice but to go for it. The French rider is always fast, and tightened the turns everywhere around the shortened seven fence track and galloped daringly on the stretch down to the last oxer. Looking on the score board, Simon had shaved off over a second on Hough's time – and could raise his hands in the air in celebration while the Lyon-crowds gave their home hero a standing ovation.
